God’s word points us toward meaningful commitment within the local church—for our encouragement, our protection, and our growth in Christ. FBCR pursues this vision through a four-step process for becoming a member:
1) Membership Matters classes - We encourage all prospective members to attend our Membership Matters classes. The curriculum is composed of two one-hour classes entitled: “Why Join a Church?” and “Life Together as FBCR.” After completing the two classes, participants are invited—but not required—to take the next step by scheduling a membership interview.
2) Membership Interview – In a one-hour meeting, the prospective member meets with the pastor to share basic biographical information and give a testimony of how the Lord brought about their salvation. If the individual desires to move forward, they would then affirm the church’s statement of faith and sign the church covenant.
3) Pastoral Recommendation – Following the interview, the pastor reviews the application and testimony, and—if there are no concerns—recommends the applicant for membership.
4) Congregational Affirmation – At our regularly scheduled members' meetings (held every other month), the pastor shares a brief summary of each applicant’s testimony. Members are given the opportunity to ask questions. A vote is then taken, and with a majority approval, the applicant is welcomed into membership.
